Happy Juneteenth, Nashville. Whether you're spending the day reflecting, celebrating, supporting local businesses, or just enjoying a little extra time off, we've got something fun for you below.

This week's Local's List comes from artist, show wrangler, and all-around good hang, Jack Stell, who shared some of his favorite freaky summer hangs. Consider it your locally sourced recommendation, with better jokes.

If your ideal Fourth of July involves fewer folding chairs and more rooftop cocktails, we've got you covered. Enter to win tickets to CAPRIcious' America 250 celebration at the Fairlane Hotel, complete with fireworks views, BBQ, live entertainment, and enough patriotic energy to last another 250 years.*

JUST ANNOUNCED

  • Pride Month may have a finish line, but community doesn't. In partnership with Nashville CARES and CARES 360, our LGBTQIA+ Events Calendar highlights local events, organizations, and gatherings throughout the year. Take a look and make some plans.*

  • The only thing better than watching Jaws in the summer is watching Jaws outside with a crowd. Movies Under the Giant Guitar returns June 25th with a free screening, food trucks, and a reminder that sharks remain terrible neighbors. Free to attend!*

  • Who Can It Be? Men At Work. Toad the Wet Sprocket. A room full of people suddenly realizing they know every word. Sounds like a pretty good Thursday night at The Pinnacle. Enter to win a pair of tickets!*

  • Plus other just announced shows from Syleena Johnson, Sienna Spiro, Copeland, Puppeteers For Fears, and more!

LOCAL’S LIST w/ ARTIST JACK STELL

Are your summer plans in need of some freaky-deeky upgrades, and/or do you just love fries? Either way, we’ve got a real treat for you this Friday, as local artist and man-about-town Jack Stell shares with us the events he’s most stoked about this summer in Nashville.

The recipe? A healthy dose of the avant-garde comedy, a dollop of indie film and art fests, and a sprinkle of Pride, and you’ve got yourself one freaky summer. These picks are as sick as Jack’s grill. Trust us, you won’t want to miss this!

HAPPY JUNETEENTH

LOCALS ONLY

  • In honor of the Juneteenth holiday, local airwave favs WNXP 91.1 are rocking songs all day from artists of color from 6 am-10 pm, so lend your ears in tribute, smash that "Listen Live" button on their website, or download the app here if you’re running around.

  • Adding in a recap of last night’s packed house at Marathon Music Works as The Protomen performed Act II, part of their three-night SOLD OUT shows playing all three acts. Fans came in droves from all over the US, and the show was phenomenal. I couldn’t think of a more dedicated fan base or artists more worthy of that love. Buy their Act III album here, and see an interview with the band here.

WIN STUFF

Jack's list reminded me of something I've always appreciated about Nashville: the best recommendations usually come from the people out there making art from the heart. Not algorithms. Not trending lists. Just somebody saying, "Trust me, go check this out."

Have an awesome weekend, friends!
